Will Shipping Containers Arrive On Time In 2023

Many business owners and consumers have worried about the supply chain and shipping issues for several months now. Over the past couple of years, the biggest concern was whether supplies would arrive on time. Delays, worker shortages, and high demands are the main factors that contributed to shipping issues for many consumers. The latest concern is whether shipping containers will arrive on time in 2023.
Are Shipping Companies Still Experiencing Delays?
In order to avoid the same shipping issues from 2020, many companies increased their orders in 2021 and shipped them early in 2022. The hope was to avoid a last-minute scramble late in the year. While this seemed to work well for shipping companies in 2022, they now have to find a better plan for 2023. Container schedules proved unreliable for many companies because they did not know what to expect from deliveries. Even though volumes are lower over the past few months and importers can better predict arrivals, the supply chain is not as balanced as companies would prefer.
Reports show arrivals improved from 2021 to 2022, however, the on-time arrival rate is still not where it was before 2020. According to Sea-Intelligence which tracks reliability, shipping delays are a global issue right now.
The good news is that experts report delays on the West and East Coast less than they were last year. Port congestion was at an all time at one point last year and that issue is nearly gone. Projections show delays are less, showing an improvement in supply chain issues.
Will Shipping Containers Arrive On Time This Year?
Although it’s a good sign that ports on the West and Easts Coats have reduced congestion, companies still wonder if shipping containers will arrive on time this year? Will ports still experience delivery delays? These are some concerns many companies have in the coming year.
According to the Ocean’s Timeless Indicator (OTI), the worst of the port congestion issue is over. The OTI is a tool that tracks coastal routes from the time they leave their port to their destination. The tool also factors in wait times. These numbers fluctuated throughout last year, showing the highest in January. Holiday demand likely contributed to higher wait times in route as well as port side. While the times are higher than pre-pandemic levels, experts are hopeful the on-time arrival trend will continue in the new year.
