Cargo Transport Will Raise Pay Again

As the supply chain issues continue to present problems, many industries are providing drivers with another additional pay increase. Freight carriers are pulling out all the stops to try and keep their drivers during this taxing time. This is not the first pay increase most truckers have seen this year, and it certainly won’t be the last.
Cargo Transport Will Raise Pay Again
Through every market, the trucking and transportation industry has had a difficult time keeping employees happy and attracting new employees. The long-standing revolving door continues to grow wider as many truckers begin to retire. Many experts believe these last few raises over the course of 18 months or so are just the beginning of more pay increases to come.
In October of 2020, Crete Carrier and Shaffer Trucking increased their drivers’ pay. Most of their solo drivers, team drivers, and owner-operators make anywhere from 51 cents to 57 cents per mile. Crete Carrier’s President Tim Aschoff issued a statement regarding wanting to reward their drivers for all their hard work during the pandemic. “Our drivers have helped keep America’s shelves stocked during a pandemic. They’ve run more miles per driver than last year. And they’ve come through for our customers time after time. Now, our customers are asking us to do more, allowing us to provide a well-deserved pay raise for our drivers.”
The North Carolina company Cargo Transporters made a record-breaking pay increase for their company in February 2021 for their over-the-road drivers. Solo drivers were given a 6 cent per mile pay increase, and base pay starts at 60 cents per mile. A 3 cent per mile pay increase is awarded to team drivers. This carrier employs more than 700 people and has a fleet of approximately 1,700 trailers and 500 tractors. Specializing in time-critical shipping, they expedite cargo deliveries east of the Rocky Mountains.
The Chairman of Cargo Transporters John Pope made a statement during a press release regarding the changes to the company. “This is the largest single increase in OTR driver pay the company has made since its start in 1982. We ask these drivers to sacrifice time at home with their family, uphold a high level of safety, fuel and maintain equipment, care for freight, and do dozens of other tasks. We are proud to offer this level of compensation for those that are the best in class in their profession.” By increasing paid time off, the company hopes to offer new employees the chance to acquire three weeks of paid time off.
